When one thinks of the outdoors, ideas of hiking, camping and fishing usually come to mind. Recreational activities outside of the home or office are a popular way to spend the weekend or any other leisure time. Sometimes the outdoors refers to the more rural areas outside a city and could be the destination for some much needed relaxing. Others step outside their door and are in the outdoors, hence the name 'outdoors'. These folks usually already reside in such rural areas and call the outdoors their home.

Some great places to experience the outdoors is in the pacific north west of the United States. Mount Rainier and its outerlying areas are great for picnicing, hiking or camping. And the Olympic National Forest, the country's only rainforest, is also a great place in Washington to visit and spend some time outdoors. There is also the nearby Capital Forest that is covered with trails for motorbikes, horses or hiking.

Others might prefer the landscape of northeast area of the country for hunting, fishing or trapping. The Adirondacks are a great getaway where the outdoors spreads for hundreds of miles in every direction. Beautiful mountains and crystal clear lakes make this area a must see for all outdoors enthusiasts. The hunting and fishing is unrivaled in the great northeast.

But some would prefer the more arid areas of the country for their outdoor activities. Such places could include New Mexico, Arizone or southern California where the land is dry and filled with desert like plants and animals. There are baja races and canyon hikes in places in the southeast states of the U.S. and some of the worlds best rock climbing.
